Are you starting a business? Or just interested in re-branding your company? Get a new logo made and give your firm a fresher look, but as you do that do not forget to keep some points in check.
Whilst introducing a brand or a company, the first thing that comes to the mind is its visual representation, aka its logo. The logos of big brands like Apple, Coca-Cola, and McDonald’s are the most easily recognizable trademarks in the world. All the famous logos have a very unique look and represent various industries. Yet they all define clearly, the do’s and don’ts of a logo design. Logo is as important as the name of the brand and the company.
Here are some of the do’s and don’ts while designing a “Good-logo” or having it designed.
SKETCH OUT YOUR DESIGN
The logo design and brief might look easy, and you might feel like you can create the logo desired by the client, directly on the software, it is not. Let us break it down to you. It is impossible that the client will love the logo in the first go. So instead of trying your luck with software directly, try doing it on paper first. (psst! Plus it gives out an impression to your client, that you know what you are doing.)
KEEP YOUR LOGOS BLACK AND WHITE
The correct color can make your logo a success but it is very important to know its feasibility among various platforms. To check that, it is better to make the logo black and white first. If it looks good in black and white, it will work with every other combination of color.
PICK THE RIGHT FONT
It doesn’t matter how much you love a font, it might look great with all your other artworks, but it is not guaranteed that it will work while designing a logo. So opt for the simplest font in your list.
SEE IT FROM A DISTANCE
Looking at the Logo Design from a distance can also help define the feasibility, and the ability of the design to capture attention. If you cannot understand the icon or what is written, drop the idea.
DISCONNECT IMAGES FROM TEXT
Do not make the images and text marry each other just because they look good together, separate them at once, and create outlines between them so that they become easy to comprehend.
DO NOT USE SHADOWS
Drop shadows may sound like a good idea, but are really not. They may create problems while displaying and make your logo look off print. The minor design impact shadow offers is not worth the trouble at all.
DO NOT USE CLIP ART
Using a clip art means you cannot trademark the logo, you have to make sure nobody else will be using the same and easily available clip art that you thought you might use and call it a day. Instead do not use clip art at all, but if you like to carry out re-branding effort, do give it a try!(sarcasm). Build your logo the right way in the first go and keep yourself from the hassle.
KEEP IT SHORT
Too many words does not work anywhere in the marketing world, also not in logo design, keep it short and simple, so that they are easy to remember. Go for fewest words possible, and focus on the icon itself.
Are all these points a little tough to follow through? Do you need a better and faster way?
